About Straightfare

We show what a rental car in Latin America costs once everything mandatory is in the price.

Draft text, a lawyer has not read it yet

What this site does

Most rental car searches lead with a low base rate. In Costa Rica and Mexico, third-party liability insurance is required by law, and taxes and fees come on top. The number you see first is often not the number you pay at the counter.

Straightfare reads each company's own price page, adds up the base rate, mandatory liability, taxes and mandatory fees, and shows the all-in total next to the date we read it. The deposit is a hold on your card, not a charge, so it is shown in its own column and is not part of the total. Local companies with good ratings are listed first.

How we get the prices

We read the public pages of rental companies and broker sites. We never sign in to anything and we read at a low rate so we do not load anyone's servers. Every price keeps the date it was read, and a price older than 60 days comes off the page. If we cannot confirm that a headline price covers every mandatory charge, we say so and print no all-in total for it.

What we are not

We do not rent cars and we do not sell insurance. Nothing here is insurance or legal advice. Prices change daily, so check the total with the company before you pay.

Who runs it
